If you are seeking a charitable cause to donate to, look no further. Consider Massachusetts Bay Division (U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps) as a recipient of your next charitable donation. You can send a personal check or even pay with your major credit card (through the secure, verified PayPal website).

All donations to Massachusetts Bay Division are tax-deductible under Section 501(c)(3) of the IRS Code. We will provide you with a written receipt confirming your donation. This is suitable documentation in the event of an IRS audit.

I hope you’ll consider us a worthy recipient for your charitable donation. While our summer training programs are funded by a federal grant, all of our local operations (our unit’s two drills per month, all cadet uniforms, administrative supplies and training/operation fees) come entirely from the pockets of our cadets and their families. It’s not easy, and it’s not cheap. Twenty bucks from you goes a long way with us. Your donation will be appreciated, and used to tangibly benefit the cadets.

Giving Opportunities.

Smaller donations help us to purchase administrative supplies, uniforms and insignia. Most uniforms cost between $3 and $5 each – so $20 bucks from you will actually fit one Sea Cadet with his/her uniforms. Talk about bang for your buck.

Larger donations allow the unit to achieve some of our bigger goals. We’d like to buy color guard gear to march in local parades, but currently, we just can’t afford the $1,000 it would take to buy a good-looking set.

Giving Benefits.

When you give to Massachusetts Bay Division, you’re giving to a great cause with big needs. Cadets pay for all program expenses, including travel to/from training, insurance, uniforms and all training expenses. Out-of-pocket costs can reach $400 - $500 per Cadet each year. If the unit can afford to purchase more uniforms, we can lessen the burden to our members. And if you are especially generous, we may be able to defray the cost of attending summer training.

All donors will receive a copy of our Annual Report, with unit financial information, pictures, and feature stories about our activities last year. The report is published by the Massachusetts Bay Division Parents Auxiliary.

Why Should I Donate?

Because we need it. Providing our cadets with uniforms, training supplies, and the administrative structure needed to support them is not cheap. None of our volunteers receive any compensation. We also spent less than $100 on “administrative expenses” last year. Every other penny went straight to activities for our cadets – and so will your donation.

There’s two major parts of a Sea Cadet career: 2-week summer trainings, and local unit operations. The summer training programs are funded through a grant from the U.S. Navy, but the operations of our local unit are year-round and entirely funded by the enrollment fees we charge our cadets. An active and generous donation program allows us to reduce costs to the cadets and will also let us put a better product on the field.

Certain, limited in-kind donations are appreciated. If you wished to donate a spare Powerpoint projector or laptop computer, we can talk. But the best way to make a meaningful impact on the program is to give money. We have monthly and one-time donation programs available – and all are tax-deductible.
