Unit trains with Navy units in Newport

Thursday, February 19, 2009

Massachusetts Bay Division travelled to Newport, RI for a great training opportunity with the Navy.  During this two-day/one-night trip, the cadets visited the Surface Warfare Officers School (SWOS), where all new naval surface officers are trained before heading to sea.

The cadets got hands-on training in the SWOS Bridge Simulator.  Check out the pictures -- you will see the simulated "ship" transiting out of port under the complete command of our senior cadets (and they didn't run aground!).

After some team-building exercises during the evening, the group stayed overnight; and on Friday, visited the "USS Buttercup" damage control wet trainer.  Unfortunately, we were not able to take pictures, but you can see pictures of last year's visit by clicking here.

All together, this was a great trip and our cadets got a lot out of the experience!
