Unit holds first combined Awards Ceremony and Parents Meeting

Sunday, January 06, 2008

Several cadets received awards and promotions on Sunday, January 6 at Massachusetts Bay Division's first combined awards ceremony and parents meeting.

During the ceremony, cadets who had advanced in rank, exercised leadership, and helped the unit during 2007 were recognized.  The unit's first Chief Petty Officer also received "the Chief's hat" during a ceremony with his family.

After the ceremony, the Commanding Officer, LTJG Matt Landry and Auxiliary President Mrs. Ruth Govoni reviewed the unit's success in 2007 and spoke about priorities for 2008, which include fundraising, recruiting new cadets, and retaining our current members.

Massachusetts Bay Division was recently determined to be a public charity under Section 501(c)(3), IRS Code, thus making all future donations to the unit income-tax deductible by the donor.  It is the hope of the staff that this will encourage people to donate.
