Damage Control Training

Wednesday, February 20, 2008

Joined by three other local units, eight of Massachusetts Bay Division's 20 cadets participated in the U.S. Navy's damage control wet trainer, the "Buttercup."

The exercise featured two hours of classroom study, where cadets learned how to patch burst pipes, dewater ship compartments, and stop high-pressure leaking.  Following the classroom part, the cadets changed into wet gear and jumped in to the trainer.  At one point, the cadets working inside the trainer had to contend with five seperate breaches in the hull, firemain bursts, and over 4 feet of water.  To succeed, everyone must practice teamwork!

The photos are posted here.  Check back soon for some videos!
